We're referring to a game reportedly called Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, a title that to . The following fuzzy image was initially doing the rounds. For those that aren't fans of the Rabbids it's pretty much everything that's been feared. Now a full piece of artwork has been posted by , who has been among those highlighting the project in recent months. Whether it's accurate and representative of an actual game remains in rumour status until confirmation is given by Ubisoft or Nintendo, of course. It'll certainly be one to watch for during E3, if not before. This writer's off to a dark room for a lie down. What do you think of this concept, and do you believe it's real? Update: Nintendo World Report has published a series of images that reputedly outline the core concept and structure of the game; they appear to be publicity briefing materials. There is some scruffy writing in the documents, and they're filed as rumours here for the same reasoning that was outlined above. No matter how good this game is, if we get this and have to watch PS4 get BG&E2, then it would be gutting. Ohhh look. I'm not saying there aren't people saying it's real, it very likely is and I wouldn't be surprised if it pops up at E3 (or before). Judging by the picture alone, it doesn't exactly look like something I'd cough $60 for, though. Would need to know more about it before deciding one way or the other but as far as I'm concerned any switch game with Mario in the title can only be a good thing I'd love it if it combined the gibberish voices from M&L: Partners in Time with the silly rabbid screams. I find it curious that this could exist, when the whole reason Rabbids became its own spinoff from Rayman, is because Ubisoft couldn't find a decent way to integrate Rabbids with their own Rayman in the first place.... I'll be honest.. it does look interesting. Although I'm still not sure how I feel about Mario crossing over with Rabbids. Looks so awesome. Yoshi with a lazer gun?! Looking forward to learning more about this game! I didn't think it was true.. This is such a weird collaboration. To my surprise I have to admit I like the artwork, can't dislike that bullet-bill gun and vacuum gun - nice attention to detail. Hopefully it'll turn out to be good.. I'm pretty skeptical though. I'll buy it; odds are it will more than likely be fun and well done. Not siding with the whiners on this one. Looks alot more interesting now that I can visualize what it's about. SRPG is an especially intriguing genre too. This could be great. If true, this leaves more questions than answers. Is this marketing in 2017? Eh. I wouldn't slam it just yet, lets see if its real and if theres gameplay. It might very well be a fresh game. The negative bias by the writer isn't very journalist like. Needs a dose of that Alex positivity. May just be a lovely game. Everyone needs to calm their horses. To each their own, but in all honesty, I'm going to look at this with only optimism. If details are to be believed, this is an RPG. A MARIO RPG. Ubisoft actually has a pretty decent track record with the genre. Child of Light and Stick of Truth were both amazing. I feel confident Nintendo wouldn't let this happen at all if it was a sub-quality outing for their plumber (I know what we all think of Stick Star, but that's besides the point). We haven't seen ANY gameplay. This could be freaking awesome! I'm no Rabbids defender, but as a huge Mario fan, I'm going to go in with an open and positive mind! I didn't even know Rabbids were still a thing... I don't even like crossovers when they happen within the Nintendo universe (except for Smash, which should be the only one), so this makes very little sense. Plus, the franchises aren't exactly on the same level. It's like; one of you is really punching above your weight here (and one of you is kind of lowering yourself). But in this instance, I actually think the lunacy could turn out to be to the game's advantage. This is Nintendo - nothing should be taken overly seriously. If we can accept that an Italian-American plumber from Brooklyn runs around eating mushrooms and stomping on turtleswhilst riding a dinosaur, I think a few deformed rabbits are acceptable... So weird! I love all the Mario RPGs but have no interest in obnoxious Rabbids. Glad Nintendo has been more open to 3rd parties using their IP, but Rabbids is nowhere on the level of Mario. I don't get the whole "I am upset" thing. first ingame shot: Nice SNES "Super Mario RPG" vibe going on there. I'm very optimistic about this, if it is a game. Don't know what the complaining is about. There will still be other great core Mario games... I still don't like the Rabbids with Mario, but this artwork and information does look interesting. It looks very real to me and I am one of the few who didn't think it was real before. I guess we'll find out more at E3! I don't think Nintendo is just going to hand over their most valuable ip and not quality check the hell out of it. Being honest, I would have preferred to have had other Mario characters (Wario, Daisy, Waluigi, etc) other than the Rabbids and cast them as villains instead. However, its too early to judge. Other than that I didn't see any negative bias against this game in the article, also the definition of journalism is reporting the news and publishing it to a wide audience. If anything it could be both a fansite and a news site, since it appeals to Nintendo fans and those who just want to see what's new with Nintendo. It's always nice for the Switch to get new games, but I'm rather unsure about this. The Rabbids in general just annoy me For some reason now im more optimistic about this game. LOVE the art style, this could be a really fun game, I will keep an open mind until I see gameplay. I don't base opinions off a screenshot. They're not meant to be seen by the public. I don't get the "I don't get the negativity" comments, since from what I can see most people seem open minded or positive about it. I don't care about this game but I have no trouble with it, I just wish that people would have been as positive or open minded with Federation Force, which did have a different (and honestly not fitting) artstyle and a different structure considering that it had misisons instead of an open world, but at least kept the gameplay from the prime series and allowed an expansion to the universe, not a different direction to the main series. Yeah I've been a fan of Metroid since I was 6 (when I got Super Metroid) and knew that Federation Force would be polemic, I just didn't expect it to be so hated specially since it kept the gameplay from the prime games and could have been a way to expand the franchise. Many think that it was justified because it was the first entry in a long time, but they don't realize that they jut buried the opportunity to see another entry for a long time... if not forever. Let's hope this game does well and serves as an example of how a franchise is able to expand and try different things. Turn based? If it was a shooter maybe I'd be interested, would be really quirky. I don't care for the cross-branding with Rabbids - I think it would have worked a ton better with Rayman as a co-star with Mario, and using Mario enemies in an RPG. That being said, I do find it funny how many people trash this, but then will go play some ultra weirdo otaku anime JRPGs with 'waifus' and all that creepy crap. This is 10x better than Xeno-anything. We do want it. Speak for yourself. If this is real Nintendo will lose a LOT of credit from me. We've seen convincing fakes before, let's hope this is too. That Peach rabbit alone is making me sick just looking at it. Marketing yourself as "self-mocking" is rarely a good thing, and that rabbit isn't self-mocking, it's catering to focus groups. Besides me not liking the Rabbids in general (they're just Minions before Minions), this just does NOT look good to me. The gameplay is going to have to be REALLY good to get me into this. I love all the hateboners and hatebarfing going on in here. It's incredibly stupid to judge a game as bad just based on the Rabbids being in it alone. For the record: I am utterly neutral on the Rabbids, so their presence doesn't bother me one way or the other. So I find it rather amusing for people to trip over themselves trying to say this game is gonna be bad if it's real purely cause Rabbids. This could be a stellar game...or a completely awful one. In a gaming world that's always been ga-ga over guns, the lack of traditional firearms in Mario games has been a foundational pillar of not only the Mario franchise, but the entire offbeat spirit of Nintendo as a whole. The good side of the maligned "kiddy image," if you will. There've been projectile weapons in the series before, of course (fire flowers literally give Mario a "fire arm"), but these feel... different. They're actual guns, and that means a lot. Just look at Luigi! dat nigg* sure is ready to kill everyone in the mushroom kingdom! <br />A very loyal Metroid fan I assume? It's nice to atleast see one open-mindedness fan. To be honest, I thought people were going to love having a new Metroid, but immediately seeing the comments online about the game dashed any thoughts I had. The sad thing is, with you (a Metroid fan since Super Metroid) saying that gameplay mechanics felt the same as the Prime series, shows that others didn't look at the game from a gameplay perspective and that's disappointing. Another thing I find odd is that the main criticism for Nintendo is that they need to change yet when they do no one likes it. I do hope people consider Mario+Rabbids it looks fun. Even Mario fight with his sibling, Luigi. <br />So, I think it will do same things if this Mario Rabbid have some Cartoonish Weapons, Cartoon Violence and Mild Language. It will be rated E10+. The main image looks very realistic, however all the other stuff seems fake as hell. The writing is bad and seems like something a fan would write. There are typos. Well we'll know soon enough. This is officially the worst kept secret in gaming. Hard to beleive some people still think this is fake even after this massive leak. I don't know how people are judging thus game already when all details about this game points to it not being anything like a traditional Mario or a traditional Rabbids game. I really dislike how people are judging a game that so far, we haven't seen ANY actual gameplay footage yet. I get with Colour Splash why people were so concerned but with this, people are going way too overboard in my opinion. At least wait until E3 to see the actual gameplay. So... It's a turn-based battle system? Nintendo puts Final Fantasy characters in Sports Mix and Dragon Quest characters in Fortune Street, but the characters that are well known for party games are put in an RPG?! I'm not sure if it could be anything similar, other than being a turn based strategy game with funny guns, but I was primarily responding because you appeared to not like Codename: STEAM, and I thought it was actually a great little game, with some solid gameplay. So, I wanted to express myself concerning that, not so much in defense of this possible new game here, unless Nintendo takes the reigns and works its magic. Two things to consider: First off, for the people going on about "but a Mario game can't have guns": These are obviously some type of goofy ray guns, so the effects of them probably won't be worse than any of the weapons that we see in games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros, and considering the other half of the cast, the effects will more than likely be comical, so perhaps we can think of freeze or burn rays or something along that line. Second, for the people that mention those "glaring" typos, which "obviously" show that all of this is fake: If you take these slides into account, it is obvious (well at least to anyone with a marketing degree) that these were meant for use within the company, NOT as marketing material for the general audience/public. So, if it's real, it was more than likely used as a "behind closed doors" presentation for either the board of Ubisoft or as a presentation for Nintendo's management. And Ubisoft obviously being a French company with very few (if any) fluent English speakers among them might account for all the typos. And let's not forget that there are also quite a few people at Nintendo who can't speak English, so they wouldn't have noticed these typos either. And besides that, the typos aren't what matters: it's the concept that they want to get across to whatever management, either their own or Nintendo's, and a couple of slides quickly cobbled together can be more than sufficient to do the job, leaving them ample space and time to work out the kinks after they get the okay to proceed with their idea. Rayman doesn't have the broad appeal. The Rabbids have got an ongoing cartoon series (in its 3rd season) and the Raving Rabbids games were pretty successful.<br /> Not enough people realize this. It's the kind of character/show/product that contributes towards kids getting higher rates of ADD. (Yes, that actually has clinical proof- not allowing children to process what's going on sometimes, especially in zany action media, actually damages their mental development and gradually deteriorates the ability to maintain concentration.) It's fine to have silly and wacky things, but there's a difference between that and pure, mindless stupidity. As for the ray guns, well... They get a pass in Smash, since it's unavoidable when you cross paths with Metroid, Star Fox, et al. However, typically in Nintendo products, there's a context behind who wields guns during what circumstances. Fox using handheld guns is actually quite rare, it's usually ship to ship combat. Samus is usually killing alien beasts. And it's usually the bad guys who primarily use guns elsewhere. This sort of normalizes the Mario cast using guns, and teaches it's target audience that it's okay for the hero to rely on them. It's all about context. It doesn't matter for us, but it's important to think about with younger audiences. Listen, I get the hate and I personally think the Rabbids games and characters are stupid. But this could be fun, I'm not enthused about it but I'm not discounting it altogether. Hopefully if this is real then at least it turns out halfway decent. Also? Turtle shelves. Turtle....SHELVES. There could very well have been other factors involved, such as timing, competition, marketing push/effort. Well, just because they weren't visible in the game, doesn't mean that there weren't actually any grids in Paper Mario. Except for the free roaming/sandbox games, almost all turn based strategy games use some form of grids. Mostly to decide whether you still have enough moves left to attack or not once you've walked a certain distance. So, I guess that means that you never were an Advance Wars or Fire Emblem fan either, then? I played Advanced Wars, it was good, but i dont like turn based grids. Turn based JRPG I'm used to, Grandia 2 on the Dreamcast had the best ever system where it was turn based but the computer controlled your characters movements, letting them move around as if it were real time. "Can do better" "So cliché"<br /> Nintendo wouldn't say such things about their perfect games.. So I'm in doubts. Considering this was rumoured quite a long time ago, I'm not that surprised. However, there are two things that I DO find strange: 1. According to the alleged leaks, this will be published by Ubisoft. That's kind of a shocker IMO. There are only so many Nintendo-character based games that I can think of that aren't published by Nintendo. The Mario + Sonic games were only published by Sega in Non-Japanese territories I think. 2. I'm honestly still quite surprised that they didn't choose Rayman instead of the Rabbids. At least the guy starred in plenty of games of the same genre as Mario, and he regained some of his credibility lately with the awesome Origins and Legends. You'd think people would at least remember him more fondly than the Rabbids. <br />This is probably stuff internal to Ubisoft (not Nintendo), I'm guessing an early draft. I see you're also a fan of those silent D's... Ah, Grandia 2... that was indeed a great game, and in general, anything that reminds me of the Dreamcast is always nice. Too bad that what it also reminds me of is that back then, a lot of games seemed to have the same awful sound sample for characters walking, which actually didn't sound like anything even remotely close to real walking at all... It more than likely is (internal). And there are possible reasons for the typos as well. I explained as much from a sales & marketing point of view in comment #312. As far as I'm concerned, it looks really fun. Hopefully the game play will be as fun as this marketing material. That screenshot is what got me excited about it! no...just...just no! The vulgar descriptions of Princess Peach Toadstool in the images made me suspect these images of not being from any authorized source. So I've been following this game and this story for a while. I'm also into stocks, and there's been some really interesting chatter going around. Depending on the success of this game, I'm hearing Nintendo might be a suitor to buy a commanding share in Ubisoft. The idea is Nintendo would use Ubisoft like Rare- as a 2nd party dev with creative control over some Nintendo IP's, while also getting Ubisoft a way out of a hostile takeover by Vivendi I don't want to stretch this comment too much, but it makes sense. Mario is just testing the waters (if they can't make Mario profitable, then its not worth the investment) I'd love if you guys did a little digging and did an opinion piece on it. This wouldn't mean Nintendo would be overseeing Assassins Creed games or stopping Ubisoft from releasing for other platforms. But Nintendo would be getting much needed assistance in developing HD games for franchises that have been long dormant (think Ubi-tendo Metroid). Plus, I'm told Nintendo stock would explode. Like, rocket past Wii mania explode I don't think anyone's trying to imply it'll be gritty or edgy. Rather, it's how they'll go at the concept. So far Nintendo's big shooter is Splatoon, a game in which squid-human mutants act like 90s kids and fight for turfs. When Nintendo says they're doing something everyone else has done but they haven't, many of us raise an eyebrow in case it ends up like Splatoon did and turns out to be spectacular. This looks amazing. Just the shake-up Mario needs. For all its amazing and bold hardware moves, Nintendo is often quite conservative with its games. This would bring some very welcome craziness to Mario. Some sketchy language in those presentations, but if this is an internal document made by a French team, that could easily be the case.
